A much better book to get would be those home-manufactured/printed
Zappa encyclopedias known as Zappalog....made my some fans in
Germany, from what I've heard.

But some people also heard an "invasion" from Mars...so take that
with a grain of salt. :-)

No....I haven't seen it anywhere.....but I am not an active
CD/Record trade show fanatic, which means that I don't care too much
about those kinds of fan items, etc.

But the Zappalog.....if it were affordable to fans, I wouldn't
discount the hypothesis of examining it .....to decide whether it
was worth the price. But it's out of production...and has been so
for several years - no thanks to  Rhino Records, of course.

And yet you have no problem declaring the "Zappalog" to be a superior
work.  Odd.

There's no comparison, as the two projects are completely different.
_Zappalog_ is little more than a discography covering Zappa's entire
career through 1981 (2nd edition).  "Project Documentation" is an
exhaustive, day-by-day account of the 1988 tour--or so I understand;
I don't have a copy either!

And we know you don't have a copy of Lenny Bruce's "Berkeley" Vf
either. You must be spending all your money in one place... let's
see.... you spent your entire salary on Christmas shopping ?!  :-P

I wonder if AOL got its name from the term "assh_ole" ... there's
the "A", the "O" and the "L"; i.e.  If I were you, I'd be on another
ISP. But hey, that's your choice.

Apparently Miggy is under the impression that Den Sims' "Project
Documentation" is something you can just walk into a store and buy.
In reality it is a privately compiled, unpublished (and reportedly still
unfinished) document.  My reason for pointing out that I don't actually
have a copy is that I don't want to pretend to have first-hand knowledge
of something when I do not.  What's "Vf" supposed to mean?

Sorry. I made a stupid typo. It was intended to be "CD"... Anyway, I
often type purely by reflex or memory  at an "extraordinary speed".
v+f is right adjacent on my keyboard to c+d.

Den Simms still owes me money/Society Pages-issues. So, if you ever read
it Den: fuck you. Same goes to Rob Samler. Having said that, I hope they
will one day resurface and finish the projects. They owe it to
themselves, us and most of all FZ.

I understand that both Zappalog and Project Documentation are worth
getting, as well as Torchum Never Stops. All three are not or no longer
available. I don't have any of these, but there must be people out there
who have one or more. It might make a nice web site, don't you think?
Uhm, this probably is the project that Vladimir Sovetek has been
working on for the last couple of years. Anyway, it was just a thought.

For more (and a lot of) info on the 1988 tour check out Pat Buzby's 1988
Tour Page  http://www.inforel.com/~patb/fz88.html .

Yeah, well, they owe a lot of us money.  That's just what happens
with these fanzines that disappear with their extensions waving
in the moonlight.  It's amusing to me to recall how scathing these
guys were about Mother People.  Even after the last issue they
published--three and a half years ago--they were still promising
that they wouldn't "pull a Mother People--now or ever."

In fact, most of the info on this page is derived from a xerox copy
of "Project Documentation," as well as Den's listing of album sources from
Society Pages.  "PD" (at least the incarnation that I have) mostly consists of
a listing of show dates, locations, and setlists, along with transcriptions
of most of the secret word jokes and other comments from the shows (except
for those shows for which Den couldn't find tapes).

So what's in Project Documentation that isn't on your page? Just details
of how and where each secret word was used?

Each setlist comes with a section titled "Noteworthy aspects, lyric mutations,
etc", which contains most every little deviation from the norm - such as
secret word usage and complete transcriptions of onstage routines and
monologues, and even some musical analyses of unusual improvisations.

There's also a listing of every song played with analysis of the arrangements,
and a partial list of songs rehearsed but not performed. One section contains
newspaper clippings and photos (which don't come out very well xeroxed). And
some various tidbits with more or less relevance to the '88 tour, such as a
Zappa quiz (the one that's on Vlad's page, I think) and some facts about the
Simms/Mother People feud.

All in all, a very impressive piece of work, IMO (pardon my Portuguese).
